Yaz to undergo heart bypass surgery

Boston (AP/WBZ Newsroom) -- Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski is said to be resting comfortably after undergoing triple bypass surgery at Mass General Tuesday.
The family of the former Red Sox great said in a statement that the surgery was a "complete success."
Dr. Patrick O'Gara of Brigham & Women's Hospital did not treat Yastrzemski but talks to WBZ's Laurie Kirby about the kind of surgery Yaz had.
The 68-year-old Yastrzemski was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital earlier in the day after experiencing chest pains. After tests and evaluation, doctors decided to perform the bypass.
The popular Yaz was an 18-time All-Star and spent his entire career with the Boston Red Sox. He was the last player to win the Triple Crown, leading the American League in batting average, home runs and RBIs in 1967.
Yastrzemski was elected to the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 1989. He finished with 3,419 lifetime hits, 452 home runs and 1,844 RBIs. He also won seven Gold Gloves as a left fielder before moving to first base later in his career.
