Boston -- How can you help teach your kids about the political process? Take them in to the voting booth with you.
Making democracy a family affair is the object of the "Take your kids 2 Vote Campaign," urging parents to bring thier kids into the voting booth so they can see how the voting process works first-hand.
Chriss Winston is heading up the campaign and she says the more involved your kids can be inside the booth, the better...She feels this is a great way for one generation to teach the next about the importance of voting, and about civic responsibility.
Winston feels if parents vote regularly, their children are far more likely to vote when they become adults, and while political campaigning can sometimes be negative, voting can be a more positive experience for them.
Getting kids involved early in the political process is also essential. Fewer than than 1 in 3 young people between the ages of 18 and 20 voted in the last presidential election, and national scores on civics knowledge have showed a sharp decline. Other studies show that while young people are volunteering more, they are voting less.
