New DiMasi controversy

BOSTON (AP) -- A ticket brokers industry group paid a close friend of House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi $60,000 to work on their behalf last year, apparently contradicting assertions by Richard Vitale that he did not work as a lobbyist for the group.

The Massachusetts Association of Ticket Brokers on Friday filed documents with the secretary of state's office indicating it paid Vitale's WN Advisors LLC $30,000 between January and June 2007, and another $30,000 between July and December 2007.

The ticket brokers group said it severed its relationship with Vitale this week.

Vitale, an accountant and friend of DiMasi, reiterated through a spokesman on Friday that he was a "strategist" and not a lobbyist for the group.

According to state law, anyone paid more than $5,000 to influence state legislators must register as a lobbyist.
