Randolph No Place For Hate Presents "Create Peace, Build Respect" - May 18

Sidewalk Sam and Randolph youth to create a Peace Mural at Randolph High School

Until a couple of years ago, gun violence was rare in Randolph. The town’s newly formed No Place for Hate Committee is attempting to move Randolph past the recent wave of youth violence that has shaken the community during the past year. They kick off of a summer of non-violence with their next event, "Create Peace, Build Respect". On Sunday, May 18 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (rain date: June 8)

No Place for Hate is hosting Sidewalk Sam and his Paint for Peace project at Randolph High School, 700 Memorial Parkway. Using the sidewalk as a canvas, Sidewalk Sam rallies people around solutions to social problems. He, together with young people of Randolph, will create a 20’ square Dove of Peace mural. In addition to the mural painting, attendees are invited to share their own messages of peace in chalk on the sidewalk and street in the area.   Other activities will include a D.J., displays of Randolph students’ artwork and helpful information available from programs that work with young people and families affected by issues of violence.

In preparation for the event, Sidewalk Sam visited Randolph’s High School and Middle School to share his belief in the difference the young people of Randolph could make in spreading the message "Create Peace, Build Respect". Police Chief Paul Porter, recently re-elected Board of Selectman Paul Fernandes and School Committee member Paul Meoni, have worked closely with the No Place for Hate committee. This will be the 3rd and final event to designate Randolph an official No Place for Hate community.

Memorial Parkway will be closed to traffic and renamed Peace Way in honor of the Peace Dove mural project and street celebration on Sunday, May 18 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
