Fall River, MA (AP) -- The latest appeal from a company that seeks to build a liquefied natural gas terminal in Fall River is rejected.
In its rejection of plans by Weaver's Cove Energy, the Coast Guard says the river approaching the project is unsafe for navigation by LNG tankers.
A big problem is the relatively short distance between two bridges on the Taunton River, one of which was saved from demolition, particularly for this LNG project.
Weaver’s Cove altered the plan so that smaller tankers could be used on the river. But Coast Guard Rear Admiral Timothy Sullivan says that doesn’t take away the navigational hazards.
The company has also proposed building an offshore berth so tankers wouldn’t pass by populated areas, but those risks are still “unacceptable,” according to critics. |
