Hot flashes or flushes are a common symptom in women who are undergoing menopause. Other symptoms associated with menopause include anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, and difficulties performing daily tasks.
Many women believe that after menopause the hot flashes will go away, and, the majority of times they do–but not all the time.
A recent study looked into how long hot flashes remained in postmenopausal women.
Results showed that 20% of the women studied who were 5 to 9 years postmenopausal, continued to have hot flashes.
10% of women 10 years and more postmenopausal also continued to have hot flashes.
Women who were over-weight or had a hysterectomy were more likely to continue to have hot flashes.
In addition to the hot flashes these postmenopausal women also had difficulty sleeping.
So, if you are a postmenopausal woman who still experience hot flashes, discuss it with you physician so treatment can be started.
