Bruins - Habs Game Seven Bet
4.21.08   12:00

One of Diehard's good friends is Todd Nichol. He is a native Montrealer. Todd is so sure that the Montreal Canadiens will win game seven tonight that he has a friendly wager with Diehard. Should the Boston Bruins beat the Habs tonight, Mr. Nichol will wear the Spoked B jersey for one month at our Friday Night hockey in the fall. Should The Canadiens win the game, your local correspondent will have to wear A Canadien tuque over my goalie helmet for two games!...
Grandma Mai?s 90th and the Bruins force a seventh.
4.20.08   17:00

Forever a city boy, Diehard had to make his way down to Swansea, MA for the first time as the family was having a big function celebrating Mai’s 90th year around the sun. And boy did she look marvelous and feisty. On the floor dancing with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren. It was the only reason I was not in attendance at game six where the Bruins continued playing pretty solid, physical and...
Score, score, score, or lack thereof!
4.16.08   09:00
Well, you really couldn’t ask for much more of the Bruins last night. They did pretty much the same things they did in games two and three, except score. Several opportunities they had on Carey Price but eithercould not hit the net, or young Price made the stop. A lot of shots right at him, few were tough. Everything you want in the Bruins was there. Hard work, tough in the corners, good hitting. Tim Thomas once again, sensational in goal and yet, no...
Rookie versus Rookie.
4.15.08  18:20
They are both rookies in the National Hockey League playoffs. Carey Price is a rookie in every sense of the word. Tim Thomas is a journeyman veteran in the NHL but a first-timer in the second season. With the exceptions of the first 2:02 of the first period in the first game in which a jittery lot of Bruins gave up two quick goals, the “rookies” have played like anything but. Through the first three games, Thomas has allowed 8 goals and Price just 5....
Another OT?but this time?.Bruins Win!
4.14.08   09:30
The Building was as electric as I’ve seen it since it opened in 1995. Despite the fact that half of it was filled by the Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show know as Canadien Fans. It was cheering against cheering as the fans were hoping to stir on both teams, of course in their own way. Montreal fans booing every time the B’s captain touched the puck and the proud Boston fans cheering loudly above their razzing. I saw a few fights in the stands...
SCORE!!!!
A first for Boston.  Milan Lucic scored at 6:30 of the first period and gave the Bruins a lead for the first time all season against the Montreal Canadiens. Hopefully a sign of good things to come!
Game Three and are we really in Boston?

4.13.08   18:20

Well it’s been a while since we’ve had one of these important games here in Boston. But none could be more important than tonight’s game three as once again the Bruins of new have found themselves in the same predicament as the Bruins of old. Down two games to none to the Montreal Canadiens and game three of huge importance. And although we are in Boston, right now at 6:11pm, there is a sea of Red in the stands as it seems the Canadien fans have...

Better Effort?Same Result
4.13.08   11:00
It wouldn’t have taken much to come away with a a much better effort than Thursday’s and the Bruins did just that. They played with a lot more energy, heart, focus and determination. Unfortunately they didn’t play with enough discipline as the paraded, player after player, into the penalty box putting the Montreal Canadiens on the power play time and time again. Yes the Bruins had killed the first 13 Canadien power plays, but when you live by the...
12 in a row and counting!
4.11.08  12:00   You just knew after one hundred and twenty-two seconds that this one was already over. How many times have we witnessed the ridiculous starts the Boston Bruins have had in the Bell Centre as well as the Montreal Forum before that. But pathetic I guess would be too strong a word but what would you call it. This was Men against Boys. I guess I had too high expectations that the club would come out and at least compete with the Canadiens. They did not. Even...
On to Montreál
04.08.08  21:00

Since Diehard has been alive the Boston Bruins have played the Montreál Canadiens in the playoffs 19 times. And in that time the Bruins have been victorious only five times. As things go along you sortathink the due factor is there along with the law of averages that the Bruins would be able to come away with a series victory. That isn’t always the case as it took Boston 45 years and 19 playoff series to defeat the Canadiens. It...
On to the Playoffs

4.07.08  19:00

After an up and down season, Bruins finished on a high note on Friday, and a dismal, go though the motions on Saturday. I was one that thought; no way would these Bruins make the playoff. I was wrong. Now it’s on to the Big Stuff. Into the tournament they go and right off the bat they get the big bully on the block. But more about that stuff later. Here one man’s opinion on grading the 2007-2008 Boston Bruins.  Zdeno Chara - A GREAT BIG “A”Considering...

And then there were two.

4.3.8 17:00

In Ottawa to face the Senators Friday and back home for shirt off your back night against Buffalo. And oh, what a two game festival it could wind up. Buffalo is coming off a shoot out win against the Maple Leafs in Toronto to keep their playoff hopes alive and head to Montreal to try and keep it going. The Senators have been in sort of a freefall. They were shutout by the Canadiens on Tuesday at home. The Bruins need to keep them in their tailspin and should Boston lose, it...

One down ? one to go and they were solid in the first one.

3.30.08  17:45

It’s these types of games that make you wonder, should the Bruins make the playoffs, how far they would actually go. My goodness, they looked like world beaters yesterday in a thorough dispatching of the once invincible Ottawa Senators 4 to nothing. The Bruins were solid in every way. They also scored every way. With the youngster David Krejci doing the bulk of the damage. He had a goal and two assists and an all-around two-way game. Boston got a goal from P.J....

Eighth Place and a Big Weekend.
3.29.08   13:00 Just win baby. That’s all the Bruins must do. A big game today against the Ottawa Senators, and another big one against the Buffalo Sabres. A team on the outside of the playoffs, looking in. We may know a lot but Sunday night at 9pm…but then again, we may be in the same playoff position haze as we have been for some time now. But one thing is for sure. The Bruins need to just keep winning. If they win, they are in. they took care of the home and home...
The Fans Got It Right! And then they get it wrong!

3.27.08  20:15

Once again the Boston fans have voted correctly for what was called,  way back when, the TV38 Seventh Player Award. If you were reading this blog when it started way back at the beginning of the season, you will notice that I was enamored by the play of Junior Player Milan Lucic. He provided such great play in his ten game stint, that he forced the Bruins to make a hard decision to keep him for the entire season. It could have been a bad move, but Lucic proved to...

OK?It?s Over!
3.24.08  20:30

Call me the Dan Shaughnessy of hockey. “OK, The Boston Bruins will not win the 2007-2008 Stanley Cup”! When Shaughnessy said those words on my birthday in 2004 about our Boston Red Sox, no one doubted that he would be wrong. After all, after three games in the American league Championship Series, the Red Sox were down three games to none to the New York Yankees with a resounding 19-8 on that Saturday night October 16…Diehard’s  47th...
HOME and HOME?nothing more important than points!
3.20.08   19:00 From the sound of things, you would think the game is being played in Montreal as the Canadiens and Bruins renew their rivalry here at the TD Banknorth Garden. This game and the one in Montreal on Saturday are very important games for your Boston Bruins. They have yet to win a game against Montreal this season and Montreal has outscored Boston 32-12 including an 8-2 rout in Bell Centre in the sixth game between the two clubs this season. At some point Boston...
Love those afternoon games.
3.15.08  16:30 Well what do you know. The Boston Bruins have a score and a lead in the first period. They also gave the second most potent power play 3 opportunities. But the PK withstood those miscues very well. Chuck Kobasew got the goal for Boston. Tim Thomas playing a better brand of goal. Boston couldn’t stand prosperity as Philadelphia grabs the second period momentum and the lead on a rebound baseball shot by Mike Richards just below the crossbar. Bad rebound on a simple...
Let?s face it!
3.13.08  21:40
Our Boston Bruins have a seven-million dollar defensman. Zdeno Chara. Our Boston Bruins have a five-million dollar passing forward. Marc Savard. Our Boston Bruins have a fading before our eyes four-million dollar has-been. Glen Murray. And then they have a few potentially better-than-average young forwards. Milan Lucic, Phil Kessel and David Krejci. A much better-than average goaltender, but no Gerry Cheevers. But the rest of the team is a bunch of lets-hope-for-the...
