DiMasi wants voters to weigh in on casinos

Boston, MA (AP)  -- House Speaker Sal DiMasi wants to hear what voters have to say about casinos.

Despite his opposition, he supports a proposed question on the November ballot, so long as it’s non-binding.

He says he would also be willing to let lawmakers reconsider the gambling issue next year.

The shift by DiMasi came just hours before debate in the Senate began over whether to add Patrick’s plan to their version of the state budget.

DiMasi says he’s worried the amendment could create a budget impasse.
