SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Police in Springfield are looking for a bird thief who smashed the window of a pet store and made off with about 50 parakeets.
The break-in occurred Sunday night at Dave's Soda & Pet City.
Witnesses told police the man smashed through the front window of the store, grabbed two cages full of the birds, loaded them into a small blue car and drove off.
Store owner David Ratner said each cage held about 25 parakeets, which retail for $21.99 apiece. He says nothing else was taken during the break-in.
Ratner says the birds could die if they are not properly cared for and kept in a warm enough place.
Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois, talks about how unpatriotic the Republican leadership is by breaking the record for filibusters in Congress thus hurting many Americans.
