The Boston Bruins have signed forwards Martin St. Pierre and Nate Thompson, terms of which were not disclosed by the club.
The Bruins secured St. Pierre’s rights from the Chicago Blackhawks on July 24, 2008 when Boston sent Pascal Pelletier to the Windy City.
St. Pierre played five NHL games last season, spending the majority of the 2007-2008 campaign playing for the Chicago’s AHL affiliate in Rockford. The 5-9, 185 pound center posted a 21-67-88 line in 69 games. In 12 Calder Cup playoff games he scored two goals and added 12 assists for 14 points. Signed as a free agent by Chicago on November 3, 2005, the 24-year-old has played in 211 AHL games with career 71-189-260 totals.
Thompson was the Bruins’ sixth round pick, 183rd overall, in the 2003 NHL entry draft. The 6-0, 200 pound center has spent the past three seasons with the Bruins’ AHL affiliate in Providence. In 2007-2008, Thompson played in 75 regular season games for the Baby B's and posted a 19-20-39 line, all career bests. The 23-year-old Anchorage, Alaska native also appeared in 10 playoff games for Providence and produced 2-3-5 totals.
Over his three-year professional career, Thompson has appeared in 216 AHL contests, recording 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points. In 2006-2007, he skated in four NHL games with the Bruins.
Prior to signing with Boston, both St. Pierre and Thompson were restricted free agents.
