Boston, MA (AP) -- The Boston Bruins have re-signed veteran defenseman Aaron Ward to a multiyear contract extension.
Ward, 35, had five goals and eight assists in 65 regular-season games for the Bruins last year, as well as one assist in six playoff games. He has 40 goals and 88 assists in a 13-year career with five teams.
Ward was drafted fifth overall in the 1991 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. He was traded to Detroit in June 1993, and played on two Red Wings Stanley Cup championship teams.
He was traded to Carolina in July 2001 where he won his third Stanley Cup. He also played for the New York Rangers before being traded to the Bruins in February 2007.
The team did not disclose terms of the deal.

Bruins Obtain Forward Martin St. Pierre The Boston Bruins have swapped forwards with the Chicago Blackhawks, getting Martin St. Pierre in exchange for Pascal Pelletier.
The trade was announced Thursday.
Wideman Signs Multi-Year Deal The Boston Bruins have signed defenseman Dennis Wideman to a multiyear contract extension.
Wideman had career bests last season with 13 goals and 23 assists in 81 games. He was the No. 2 scoring defenseman to captain Zdeno Chara and sixth overall on the team.
Bruins Will be Sky High for Season Opener The Boston Bruins will begin the 2008-09 NHL season on the road with a four city excursion before gracing home ice at the T.D. Banknorth Garden.
The Bruins will begin the new campaign in Colorado on Thursday, October 9, at 10 p.m. ET.
Bruins Pre-Season Slate The Bruins take on the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings on September 25th in Halifax, Nova Scotia, then again the next night in Detroit. Training camp starts September 19th.
The Boston Bruins open the 2008-09 season with four road games- the first in Colorado on October 9 - before getting their home season underway on October 20 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
