Big jump in local gas prices

Boston (WBZ Newsroom)  -- Gas prices are following oil prices.. in an upward direction.

The latest survey by AAA of southern New England finds self-serve regular averaging at $2.84 a gallon.  That's up a full 12 cents from last week.

Spokesman John Paul says the increases in crude oil prices last week have caught up with the market, and it's anyone's guess on where they will go from here.

Prices range from as low as $2.63 to as much as $3.00, so Paul says it's still a good idea to shop around; but he advises drivers not to waste gas looking for that best price.
