Agreement reached in labor talks at Pilgrim Nuclear Station

Plymouth (AP/WBZ Newsroom) -- A workers strike at at the Pilgrim Nuclear Station has been averted.

David Leonardi, vice president of Utility Workers Union of America Local 369, says plant management and the union reached an contract agreement Thursday night.

Leonardi says negotiators not only agreed on a new deal for the 254 workers whose contract was expiring at midnight, but also for 90 workers in another unit at the Plymouth facility whose contract expires in October.

The two groups make up about half of the workers at Massachusetts' only nuclear power plant.

Leonardi says the union is happy with the deal. He did not disclose details. A ratification vote is scheduled for May 23th.

Spokesman Dave Tarantino says plant owner Entergy Corp. feels it's a good contract for both sides.
