'Robust' summer expected on Cape Cod

Boston (WBZ Newsroom)  -- Anyone who thinks the sluggish economy will hurt business on the Cape this summer should think again.

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce says the country's economic conditions are working in favor of the Cape.

Chamber CEO Wendy Northcross tells WBZ Newsradio 1030 summer bookings are "robust." Northcross says, "I have members call me and i'm looking at my numbers and i just can't understand it." The numbers are better and earlier than last year.

Northcross says New Englanders want to stay close to home, and the Cape is home. She says the Cape is accessible to 30-million people on one tank of gas.

Then there's the dollar. "The value of the dollar overseas is keeping people from traveling overseas and then you add to that the inbound international travelers who find the united states a great value," according to Northcross. Sounds like a sunny forecast for the cape.
